Trolled lake jocassee for trout. Fished downriggers at 50 and 30 feet using #2 and #3 sutton spoons. No fish came on colored spoons, such as firetiger, or on top. Caught 9 keepers over 15 inch with largest being 17 1/2 inches. Fished main lake humps and points with trees.
Tip: When marked fish show up on depth finder pop clip on downrigger and jig the spoon up to surface. Works every time!

Fished Elk River near Banner Elk, NC. Fish were on Fire hitting top and bottom flies. Noticed small black beatles on all rocks so I decided to try a a small black bead heads and a Caddis Variant Dark as an indicator. No real evident emerging flies to be seen. Were catching fish in every hole with the bead head and some on dry. The larger fish were relating to flooded grass on the edge of the river. Ended up with 30-40 trout ranging from 5 – 15 inches.
Rigging Techniques: Try tying nymph to hook of dry fly thus using the hooked lure as indicator.
Water Temp: 81 up river and 79 by dam / stable weather High pressure
Started early by bridges up Little Tenn. Caught one small mouth in 80 foot on lipless crank. Ran to Forney creek and caught one on shakey head where fresh water stream empties in lake. Fished for serveral hours with out any takers. Ran up towards dam looking for cooler water. No Wind or hot. Focused on fresh water streams in the shade. Picked up a few on main lake. Finally found some fish relating to wood on the shadey side of creeks near the main lake. All were biting a Smoke coloerd 1/2 oz spinnerbait reeled real slow next to cover.
Till next time

Domminate Pattern
Bass slipping up onto humps and points adjacent to deep water.
Water temp: 80 dergees / just after storm / Clear and Calm
Ran directly to long point extending out into main lake. Instantly missed one on zara spook. Ended up catching 4-5 on topwater popers and zara. Fished for one hour before dark.
Lake Jocassee on the SC and NC line is home to several species of baitfish. Blueback Herring and Treadfin Shad are the main source of protein for bass and trout throughout much of the year. The lake can be extremely hard to fish at times so live bait is often sought after to overcome the clear water challenges. The simplest way to go about catching live bait is at night. Simply take a flood light or any other source of bright light and shine directly in the water. Often Shad and herring fallow planton which is carried around the lake by a consistent wind. This said, it is a good idea to start looking for shad on wind blown banks. After 20-45 minutes there should be several hunderd shad all schooled up around the light. If not try somerwhere else. Often sandy bottoms on the main lake adjacent to deep water will hold fish. There are no cast nets allowed on the lake so sabaki rigs are needed to catch the bait. Bluebacks can be a bit hesitent so it might be necessary to try to snag one on the up-swing. GIVE IT A TRY YOU MIGHT BE PLEASENTLY SUPRISED

Fished Green River Gorge by access of Big Hungry Road. Fallow trail in 1 1/2 miles to steep side trail down to gorge. NOT FOR THE OUT OF SHAPE Only fished for one hour but managed several 12 inch rainbows. Threw Small bandit crankbaits, small jerkbaits, crawdads, and small spoons. Only fished one hole.
Fished with two out of Waynesville and Canton. Focused mainly on points and mid-lake humps. Got to the lake around 7:00. Fished down by dam looking for a little bit cooler water and less boat traffic. Hit 3-5 points and 4 humps. Finished with about 15 largemouth and 3-4 striper. A couple decent largemouth pushing 5. Never really got on the striper but had consistant action. Stopped for lunch and grilled up some excellant hamburgers.
Water temp – 78 Water clarity – dingy Three days after front – No Wind – Clouds early till 9:30
Dominate Pattern = Bass staging on points and starting to relate to docks near deep water usually the end dock near the mouth of creeks (15-40 ft). Striper staging on points and humps near main lake. Stripers are filtering out of rivers to main lake deep holes for summer patters but will stage here for a couple more weeks before going deep. Zara spooks and Redfins are producing good striper bites.
Fished with Jack Plating out of Greenville SC. Started early in the vicinity of the dam hitting main lake points throwing a zara spook (blue and chrome) and a Redfin wakebait. Found good bait on second point we went to. Not long after caught a 7 pound striper on zara then large gar on redfin. Bait and fish were busting all around. Put 5-6 largemouth all over 4 pounds in the boat at end of long point in about 15 foot of water, with one near 6 all on topwater. Managed one more striper before it was all said and done. Once sun came up around 9:00 switched to worms and caught two more bass and called it a day early around 10:30. No telling what we could of done on live bait.
